Who is this God?

As a kid, brought up in a Catholic home, I almost went crazy pondering how God came into being. The Church had to stop me when I was made to realise, that to think that way is similar to querying God's Immortality and His Omnipotence nature. That actually saved my sense of thought. And when I became a science student, I met serious issues that conflict with my already imbibed religious beliefs. Yes, science has somehow helped religious spread but is Science pro-religion? That's the point of focus. Help...!
